"If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone."
In my opinion, the operative clause is "as far as it depends on you". It follows that if you have the ability to end that quarrel, resolve that rivalry, create peace between you and someone else, or create an environment of mutual respect and serenity, by all means, try.
It's not a question of pride or reputation or who was at fault, it's a question of performing a biblical obligation and creating inner peace for yourself.
